Dogs in the same home aggressive on lead

Ever seen 2 dogs from the same home being aggressive to each other on the leash just before being taken for a walk.. yet in the back yard and in the home get on so well?

I went to a dog site and viewed an interesting promotional video showing 2 dogs from the same home being aggressive to each other on the lead, and then showing them well behaved in the back yard... Presenting it as good training and fixing the dogs...  Yet we never see the dogs together on leash again being well behaved in the same video. Why does this happen? Was it good training?.. I doubt it!  Showing a video like this in  a different order, we have 2 well behaved dogs in the back yard, and then becoming aggressive towards each other once the leads are on...

It all has to do with triggers and overly anxious and assertive behaviour.  Many dog owners without realising it are triggering overly assertive and anxious behaviour in their dogs when getting ready to walk them. When there is no assertive or anxious behaviour being triggered, then the dogs will get on fine, as long as they have already established their pecking order with each other. When both dogs become overly anxious, the energy levels of both dogs increases, whereby both become overly assertive. Now in nature there cannot be 2 assertive dogs in the same space, so a challenge is triggered by the higher ranking dog. The lower ranking dog fights back due to its overly assertive and anxious state of mind.. result.. DOG FIGHT!

In the backyard, there are no triggers for the lower ranking dog to become overly anxious and assertive.... Hence a well balanced pack and not intense battles.

Becareful what people tell you or try to convince you is good training or behaviour modification. I personally could show you many instances of dogs naturally getting on fine together, yet when certain triggers are presented, look like they want to tear each other apart.

We must all be aware of triggers we create for our dogs. A happy pack is a well balanced pack. A pack where the energy levels are not kept in check, is an unbalanced pack..and trouble is the result.
